Sarah Catterall again uses birthday to raise money for worthy cause.
This time she chooses Lions Health Screening Unit.

The friends who attended eight-year-old Sarah Catterall's birthday party at an ice skating rink in Kirkland this Sunday, December 9, didn't bring presents. At Sarah's request, they instead brought money to help pay to test over 30,000 children next year for sight and hearing loss.

Sarah's birthday project benefits the Lions Health Screening Unit, which travels to schools throughout Washington and Northern Idaho to test young students for vision and hearing. Using her birthday to help others is nothing new for Sarah. When she turned 5 she threw a party that raised almost $2,000. This was enough to help 13-year-old Adrian Gonzalez-Perez of West Seattle get corneal surgery for his left eye, which was being robbed of sight by advanced Keratoconus. Two years ago, Sarah and her friends raised money to buy hearing aids for a teenage girl from Bellingham. This year Sarah heard about the Lions Health Screening Unit and again wanted to help.

"Sarah's a lot smaller than most of our financial supporters, but her heart's as big as they come," says Monty Montoya, President of the Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight & Hearing. "We depend on people like her to achieve our sight and hearing mission."

Sometimes it's the young who see clearest of all.
